The Horological Society of New York (HSNY) has appointed world-renowned watchmakers Roger Smith and Romain Gauthier to the board of trustees.
They enter as William Massena and Michael Friedman meet their five-year limit.
Mr. Smith and Gauthier are the world’s first trustees in HSNY’s 156-year history, and their election coincides with a period of dramatic global growth for the organization, which doubled its membership by 2021.
“It is a great honor to be appointed Trustee of the Horological Society of New York. As a watchmaker I have always admired HSNY’s work in advancing astronomy and, as Chairman of the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers, I am very grateful for HSNY’s partnership, “said Smith.
Dr. Roger Smith OBE is a true master of horology and the only modern viewer who can make a watch according to the ‘Daniels Method’ of one hand technology. His journey has always been well-known and to this day, he works in mechanical engineering. In 2018, he was honored by the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and in 2019 he received an honorary doctorate from Birmingham City University in recognition of his work in horology.
Born in the Vallée de Joux, Mr. Gauthier coined his well-known name watch the sign in 2005.
Nowadays, his patent allows him to create special full-time watches for collectors, in line with his vision for the clock: the evolution of tradition.
